Frequently Asked Questions
Who are you?
Graham Robinson, of Bo'ness, Scotland. I'm director of a small software creation and web design company, and part-time journalist. If you really want to know more, e-mail feedback@onlineopinion.net, and I'll expand this section. Important : If you e-mail Online Opinion, please include the word "opinion" in the subject, otherwise the spam filter will trash your message.
You've given your opinion - how can I respond?
See the feedback page.
Also, see the answer to the next question.
Why isn't there a letters page?
There is currently no letters page because I have no guarantee that anyone will send me letters to fill it. (Rumours abound of various magazines and newspapers that wrote their own letters until the readers got the idea - I have neither the time nor the inclination to do this!)
If you would like a letters page, then you need to send letters! E-mail them to letters@onlineopinion.net. If a letters page appears, it will be on a reasonably formal basis. This means that letters must include the writer's real name (no aliases), address (at least town, region, and country), and a working e-mail address. If asked, and I believe there is a good reason to do so, I will not publish the name or address, but they must be included. In general, I feel that if I am willing to put my name to my opinions, you should be willing to do the same. I do not intend to publish correspondants' e-mail addresses. I will seek confirmation from the sender (normally via e-mail) before publishing any letter.
I have an opinion website too - will you link to it?
In general, no. Online Opinion is not a gateway to every opinion site on the world wide web, nor will "link exchanges" or similar ideas be considered.
However, if you do have an opinion site, please let me know. If I find it useful and interesting, I may link to it. If I don't, this is probably more a reflection of my personal taste than a criticism of your site.
How do I contact Online Opinion?
See the feedback page.
Will you change this comment?
I will, of course, change any factual errors that are brought to my attention. Changes will also be made where required by Scottish law. However, that is the only circumstance in which a change will be made.
Columns and views are published on the date shown, and are then retained in the archives. After their publication they will not be changed to reflect information that was not available at the time of writing, nor will a follow up article necessarily be written. Under no circumstances will a change be made due to someone else's differing opinion.
What software do you use to run the site?
The main pages are hand crafted, using a small number of specially written scripts, and an ever increasing number of server side includes. Read up on the Apache web server is your really want to know about the last of these.
The news & views section (now ended) ran on the marvellous Greymatter.
