Online Opinion

Second to first
Confused about the election? Don't want to vote for the liar in Number Ten, but scared of letting in his racist rival instead? Don't worry. At the last election, the Liberal Democrats came second in 109 seats. If they were to win those seats, along with holding their 52 first places, Labour's massive majority would vanish, almost certainly taking Blair's job with it, and the Tories would be revealed as the marginal, extremist party they are. The Lib Dems are the party that the British left has been dreaming of - anti-war, anti-Bush, pro-Europe, and pro-taxing the rich to pay for social inclusion. Wouldn't it be nice to wake up on May 6th and find that British politics was dominated by the centrist parties, with the nutters on both the right (Tory, UKIP, SNP) and left-wings (Respect, SSP) having been marginalised?
