Online Opinion

For those who supported the Iraq invasion

To date, the cost of our invasion of Iraq is something like : $100 billion, 100,000 Iraqi dead, 1,000 US dead, 100 British (and others) dead, erosion of Kurdish autonomy, erosion of women's rights, erosion of minority rights, and largely undocumented damage to infrastructure and history. The benefits are Saddam Hussein has been removed from power, although who will replace him and how remains hugely unclear - current (lack of) security means that the prospect of anything resembling democracy is pretty much nil. Er, that's it. I suppose if I had shares in Halliburton I might see their contracts as a benefit, but I doubt anyone else does.

So, the question for those who supported the invasion is "If you knew the costs and benefits before the invasion, would you still have been pro-war, and if so, why?" An especially interesting question for those who had access to the pre-war intelligence, which should have made the costs and benefits entirely predictable.
